The Dark Knight rises begins filming in India!

May kicks off on Sunday, the month that principal photography officially begins on The Dark Knight Rises and perhaps the first frames shot might take place in Jodhpur, India.

Daily Bhaskar reports that The Information and Broadcasting Ministry “has given the nod to US-based Cape Road Productions to lense the next Batman flick” there. What does director Chris Nolan have planned?

I would take a wild stab in the dark that it has something to do with the casting of Josh Pence as the young Ra’s Al Ghul, who we already know will appear in flashback. Though I could be wrong, perhaps this is where we find Tom Hardy’s imprisoned Bane?

BOF have a trusted source who says the India shoot comes first, before moving on to L.A., New York, London (and various other U.K. spots), Pittsburgh (though we don’t know in which order these come in). We also don’t know when exactly in May filming will begin. Could it be as early as this Monday? Or is it the Monday after?

I’m sure when we find out for sure, hundreds of spy photographers will be trying to gain exclusive snaps and if it’s anything like the production of The Dark Knight, this process will be everyday.

Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt officially join BATMAN 3

Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s involvement in The Dark Knight Rises has been the worst kept secret in Hollywood over the past few months but it’s nice to get official confirmation from Warner Bros today and indeed an official reveal of the roles they are playing.

In an official press release, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is revealed to be playing John Blake, a Gotham cop who is part of Commissioner Gordon’s new task force assigned to take down the Batman – which way back when he was first circling the movie was my first guess and also wish for who he might portray. Since then we’ve heard everything from Alberto Falcone to Black Mask to some people even thinking Robin, but cooler heads prevailed and we got there in the end.

Intriguingly, Marion Cotillard will play Miranda Tate, “a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham”. YEAAAHHHH sure she is. I bet she’s also the sexy and dangerous femme fatale who is revealed to be the daughter of Liam Neeson’s Ra’s Al Ghul by film’s end. Betcha.

The Dark Knight Rises begins filming next month in Pittsburgh for a release July 20th, 2012. Christian Bale (Batman), Gary Oldman (Gordon), Michael Caine (Alfred), Anne Hathaway (Catwoman), Tom Hardy (Bane), Marion Cotillard (Talia Al Ghul), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (?), Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox), Juno Temple (Holly Robinson?), Josh Pence (a young Ra’s in 30 years earlier flashback), Daniel Sunjata (cop for Gordon), Diego Klattenhoff (as a rookie cop) Burn Gorman (?) and Nestor Carbonell (Mayor of Gotham) seems to be how the cast is shaping up.

BURBANK, Calif. – Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have joined the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the epic conclusion to the Dark Knight legend.

“When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again.” Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.

Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.

The film reunites the actors with Christopher Nolan, who recently directed them in the award-winning blockbuster “Inception.”

The director stated, “When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again.”

Heading the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” Christian Bale stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The main cast also includes Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy as Bane.

Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Christopher Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

The Dark Knight Rises is the title planned for a yet to be produced American superhero film under the development of Christopher Nolan, David S. Goyer, and Jonathan Nolan.Based on the DC Comics character Batman, the film will be the third and final installment in Nolan's Batman film series. The film is scheduled for release in the United States and Canada on July 20, 2012 by Warner Bros.

Development
Warner Bros. president of production Jeff Robinov had hoped a third film would be released in 2011 or 2012.Nolan wanted the story for the third installment to keep him emotionally invested. "On a more superficial level, I have to ask the question," he reasoned, "how many good third movies in a franchise can people name?"He returned out of finding a necessary way to continue the story, but feared midway through filming he would find a sequel redundant. By December 2008, Nolan completed a rough story outline, before he committed himself to Inception. Later in December, Alan F. Horn confirmed that while discussions with Nolan about a third film were ongoing, no casting had been done, and Horn denied all such rumors.

Before Nolan confirmed his involvement, Gary Oldman had said he was confident Nolan would return.Nolan explained that as long as he is directing, Robin will not be appearing in the franchise because Christian Bale is still portraying a "young Batman," which meant "Robin's not for a few films."In addition, Nolan considers the Penguin difficult to portray on film, explaining, "There are certain characters that are easier to mesh with the more real take on Batman we're doing. The Penguin would be tricky."

Oldman, while taking questions from an audience at the 2009 San Diego Comic Con, was asked about a third film, to which he replied, "We start shooting next year. You didn't hear that from me." He subsequently clarified his comment, saying, "... well, I'm sure they want to do another one... it might [be] 2 or 3 years."However, in 2009, Michael Caine had told MTV News that the film was not being worked on and he did not know any details.On February 9, 2010, it was announced that Nolan has "cracked" the story of a sequel to The Dark Knight and has committed to return to that project.In February 2010, work on the screenplay was commencing with David S. Goyer and Jonathan Nolan.

Pre-production
When Goyer left to work on The Man of Steel, Jonathan was writing the script based on the story by his brother and Goyer.On March 10, 2010, Nolan confirmed his involvement in the project and said it will be his last Batman movie and a conclusion to the story: "Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story. And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story... I'm very excited about the end of the film, the conclusion, and what we’ve done with the characters. My brother has come up with some pretty exciting stuff. Unlike the comics, these things don’t go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful. Viewing it as an ending, that sets you very much on the right track about the appropriate conclusion and the essence of what tale we're telling. And it hearkens back to that priority of trying to find the reality in these fantastic stories." Nolan confirmed his brother Jonathan is writing the script and that the villain of the film "won't be Mr. Freeze"and "won't be the Riddler."

In April 2010, Warner Bros. announced the film is scheduled to be released July 20, 2012.Nolan said on June 30, 2010 that Jonathan Nolan's script was finished.Nolan confirmed in September 2010 that he will be directing the film, and that he was then polishing his brother's screenplay,which he expected to have finished in January 2011.On October 27, 2010, Nolan confirmed that the title of the film will be The Dark Knight Rises.He confirmed the Joker will not return in the third film, and dismissed rumors that he considered using unused footage of Heath Ledger from The Dark Knight.

Bale said he would return if Nolan did. Filming

Filming is scheduled to begin in May 2011 and conclude in November,[19] spending four to six weeks in Pittsburgh.Nolan has chosen not to film in 3-D but, by focusing on improving image quality and scale using the IMAX format, hopes to push technological boundaries while nevertheless making the style of the film consistent with the previous two.Nolan has had several meetings with IMAX Vice-President David Keighley to work on the logistics of projecting films in digital IMAX venues.The Dark Knight Rises will feature more scenes shot in IMAX than The Dark Knight.Cinematographer Wally Pfister had expressed interest in shooting the film entirely in IMAX, but because of the considerable noise made by IMAX cameras, 70mm cameras may have to be used for shooting the film's dialogue scenes.

The first leaked photo from the set of The Dark Knight Rises has been uploaded by twitter user Ash Harper who managed to snag a photo of himself alongside the now shaven headed actor Tom Hardy who has bulked up considerably, as we knew he would, for his part as muscle-man villainous genius Bane. From the looks of things he is close to the size he was as Bronson and with filming still some weeks away, perhaps he isn’t finished his preparation yet and is going to get bigger? In any event can’t wait to see him in costume.

Just like his future co-star Christian Bale, Hardy has the dedication to his craft that allows him to transform his body physically from role to role. It doesn’t seem like five minutes ago that he was spotted (actually it was January 31st) at LAX Airport wearing that Junk Food Batman t-shirt where he looked half the size!

The Dark Knight Rises begins shooting in May and with Hardy already on set, presumably they are going through rehearsals, table readings and other such prep work. I’m sure it won’t be long before we see spy photo’s coming through on a daily basis.

A third chapter in the revamped Batman franchise is probably one of the most highly-anticipated films in comic book movie history. In spite of this, or perhaps because of it, it is also one of the most discussed, rumored about and debated films, as well. To cut through the confusion (or add to it, depending upon how you look at it), here's a compilation of the news and rumors fanning the debates.

Will Christopher Nolan return to direct?

Batman 3 Has An Official Release Date!!

Chris Nolan-directed Batman film, Warner Bros. has set the official release date to July 20, 2012.

The studio is in the very early stages of development, yet Nolan has said this is most likely the last film in the series.

The Break Down of the Batman Franchise over the past few months

The last several months have been rather chaotic for the Batman franchise, and things are only going to get worse in the months ahead. In November, the Dark Knight was mentally torn apart by an ultimate evil. He then squared off with a god, and won, but not without cost. Bruce Wayne is now stuck in another time; when he'll return is anyone's guess.

Batman's absence from Gotham has plunged the city into chaos. The question on the minds of heroes, villains and the average citizen is: Will there be another Batman? And, more importantly, can there be another Batman? If so, who will take up that responsibility?

Tony Daniel is leading up the mini-series that will answer those very questions. The second issue of the series hit just last week, and the action kicked into high gear as Tim Drake confronted Jason Todd, the man behind the Armored Dark Knight. How will things shake out? We'll find out in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, IGN tracked down Daniel to get his thoughts about working on this pivotal project, and what's in store for the future.

IGN Comics: I guess there's no better place to start our discussion than Jason Todd. In the recent past his characterization has wavered quite a bit. We've seen him played as both a grim-and-gritty antihero and well-meaning yet misguided hothead. Here we see him portrayed as more of a full-blown villain than ever before. Can you talk about your take on Jason in Battle for the Cowl?

Daniel: Jason in his own mind thinks that he's taking the necessary steps to combat the evil in Gotham City. In his mind he's not doing anything wrong, he's fighting fire with fire. The big difference between Jason and Bruce is their approach. Jason was always a little bit more on the reckless, daring side, and he obviously has a screw loose after coming back from the Lazarus Pit. When you do come back from the Lazarus Pit, you're not one hundred percent right in the head, and Jason really wasn't all that right in the head to begin with. What I like about his character is that he really believes in the way he's going about his business, and in his mind he's right. In his mind he's not a bad guy.

IGN Comics: Anytime you work with an anti-hero character I think you always run the chance that some fans will embrace his or her willingness to go the extra mile and actually kill. When I was talking to Judd Winick about his initial run resurrecting Jason, he mentioned he was a bit surprised at fans' willingness to get behind Jason. By pushing him further towards the side of villainy than ever before, were you purposefully trying to make it clear that Jason is not a good guy and is in fact off his rocker?

Daniel: Yes. At this point he is beyond the point of no return in terms of ever being considered even remotely a hero. What I wanted to do here is put him in a place that he can't come back from. The things that he does here in Battle for the Cowl are things that can never really be forgiven. The only outcome would have to be imprisonment or something worse. But from this point on for Jason the gray area between good and bad has disappeared. It's crystal clear now that he is on the dark side.

IGN Comics: I think one of the reasons fans have been unable to accept Jason is because he's never really been given a clear direction and characterization. I think pushing him in this direction will go along way towards allowing fans to accept him.

Daniel: The way I look at it is I find him very intriguing because he's evil in the sense that anyone else might be evil. In his case, childhood events and the way he was brought up led Bruce to try and take him under his wing and steer him in the right direction, but the events that happened early to this guy really shaped him into what he is now.

I think that's true in the case of any evil person – they had to have something happen to them that turned them bad. And Jason has such a history in the Batman lore that there are so many things that I can draw upon, from his jealousy of the other Robins to his animosity towards Bruce. I get to play around with his point of view, and we get to read his captions where he describes some of his feelings that we may not have had the chance to hear until now.

IGN Comics: There's one fantastic line in particular where Jason claims that Bruce took him under his wing to prevent him from becoming another one of his enemies. We all remember that great introductory scene of a young Jason stealing the hubcaps off of the Batmobile, and I think it says a lot about Jason that he'd think of Bruce's motivations as being selfish.

Daniel: Right. That says a lot about Jason's own inflated ego, conceit and self-importance. Obviously his captions may not necessarily really be the truth.

IGN Comics: Yeah, he's not the most reliable narrator.

Daniel: Exactly. So we're reading his captions, and they're the truth as Jason knows it. It might not necessarily be the way Bruce thought or the way things happened to him, but they are coming from somebody who feels wronged and feels people owe him. It's twisted.

IGN Comics: Moving on to Dick Grayson. In this issue we see Dick finally begin to accept his possibly destiny as Bruce's heir, and when he finally takes those bold first steps towards the costume trophy room, he finds Tim's note. There's a lot of emotion in his one-panel reaction. Is that dismay we're seeing? Is it anger? What's Dick's reaction to Tim's decision to step up?

Daniel: His reaction is disbelief that Tim went ahead and went out on his own without telling anyone. He took the mantel without any warnings or discussion. Also, Dick is worried, because from his encounter with Jason on the rooftop of the abandon steel mill he sees that the guy is completely gone. Jason tries to kill Damian just to force Dick to make a choice, and he knew the choice would be to save Damian. In his own twisted way he was proving a point to Dick about how dangerous and unpredictable he is. That has Dick scared, because obviously Tim doesn't know of that experience on the rooftop and might be unprepared for what he's up against.

IGN Comics: It's been fun noticing each character's choice of Batman costumes. Obviously Jason's choice matches his dark, twisted mindset, but I love how Tim chose a costume from the Jim Aparo, Neil Adams-era of Dark Knight Detective stories. I think that definitely says a lot about Tim's unique personality and skills. If Dick does indeed decide to put on a Bat costume next issue, what would it be and what would it say about him as a character?

Daniel: Dick would probably go for the most effective and practical for him. He doesn't rely on as many tricks and toys as Batman did. His first go around would probably be something that's a little more streamlined and black – the most barebones costume that would cloak him in shadows and utilize his own strengths. Not that we'll see that… `

IGN Comics: You seem to have a lot of fun utilizing some C-list villains in this issue, most notably Mr. Zsasz, Jane Doe and Firely. Some writers really thrive on and enjoy working with more obscure villains. Do you like writing some of the lesser-known rogues?

Daniel: Yes. Because basically it's easier for me to put a stamp on them since they might not have been as developed over time as others. I don't have as many boundaries personality-wise, so I can read these guys' old appearances as a reference but also update them at the same time. Whereas with a character that's very well known like Two-Face or Penguin, there are very definite guidelines that they have to stay within to be in character. So it's a little more fun in terms of having more freedom to interpret the characters, but I also enjoy working within a set framework as well. I basically only had a handful of recognizable or semi-recognizable characters in Arkham at the time that I could work with, but I would have loved to have gotten my hands on guys like the Mad Hatter or Mister Freeze. I did my best with the C-listers, though.

IGN Comics: Speaking of Mister Freeze, this issue seemed to work really nicely with the Commissioner Gordon one-shot. I'm always curious about how all the pieces are assembled in a crossover like this. Did you see the script to that issue before you wrote Battle for the Cowl #2, or did you simply know that Commissioner Gordon was going to be coming off of an important run-in with Mr. Freeze?

Daniel: I knew beforehand what was going to be happening to him, so I knew to make a quick reference to his ordeal with Mister Freeze. It's just a quick statement, but it lets you know that something just happened and will hopefully make you want to pick up the book and see what he's talking about. It's important because it greatly affects Gordon's thinking. After his run-in with Mister Freeze there's not much he's afraid of now. He's even deeper in his hard-shell than ever before, if that's even possible with a character like Jim Gordon.

IGN Comics: As quick and throwaway as those sorts of lines might be, I think they are important to giving fans the sense that the whole crossover is organic and worth their attention. I think you did it well in this issue.

Daniel: Thanks. It's word economy, as I like to call it. I can only devout a certain amount of pages to setting up scenes like that, because it is a three-issue miniseries. I have a very limited number of pages I can spend on something like that, so I have to make it clear and to the point quickly without it looking jammed in there. I think if you do it right people will get it, understand it and move on to the next scene. As long as you have enough room to digest it and understand what's being said, I can make small scenes like that work within a story that's so compacted.

IGN Comics: Speaking of space constraints, as much as you're telling a big, action-packed free-for-all to decide Bruce's heir, you also seem to be setting the table for the future state of Gotham City and the Batman line. That being said, how much should fans expect to be wrapped up next issue and how much should they expect to carry over into the Batman books come June?

Daniel: Basically the main thing that is wrapped up, which is what the story is about, is who if anyone will wear the cowl. There are aspects that are going to have to be dealt with in the ongoing series such as the Two Face/Penguin war. That's a subplot that needs to play out in its own storyline. Same with the aftermath of what happens to Tim, Damian and Alfred as well as the state of Gotham City. For instance, the military is going to have a presence in Gotham much like what you'd see with something like Katrina. We're going to see that remain a background element for future storylines for a little while until things are under control. It's going to take a little while for Gotham to be reined in, which would be the first of the new Batman's challenges – get Gotham back under control.

IGN Comics: I definitely want to touch on that final climactic battle scene, because there seems to be a couple of different levels of irony at work there between Tim picking up the crow bar and Jason using a batarang against him. Can you talk about how you arrived at that scene?

Daniel: Well I wanted Tim to lose control. Tim is very much a calculating character, and he's never really snapped before as far as I know. I wanted him to snap. The fact that Jason is wearing the costume of a person Tim considers as a father, the fact that Jason is basically ruining his father's name and legacy has hit Tim harder than anyone else. And even though he doesn't say it, sometimes your actions can say more than your words. When Tim realizes that the only person that could possible be behind this suit is Jason, he gets angrier and angrier, and by the time they come face-to-face Tim just loses all control and reason. And when he picks up that crowbar and tells Jason that he wants to kill him, it could be anger or he could really mean it. What's important is that he's lost all control at that moment, which I think anyone could under those circumstances. And we don't know how far he would have gone if not for what happened to him at the end.

IGN Comics: Can you talk at all about the art in this issue? You seem to have opened-up and stretched your legs in the issue's action sequences more than I've seen from your work in the past, particularly in that final battle. How did you approach the visuals in that final confrontation?

Daniel: I wanted to have a sense of aloneness where it's just these two characters facing each other in kind of an epic, Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader-type fight. This is a deeply personal battle. I just wanted to create that epic moment that people can hopefully look back on as being memorable. Also, I wanted to show Jason's attempt at being Batman beyond putting on a suit. He's also trying to preplan, and that's where we see the maze he's constructed of those gray tarps that match the color of his costume. He lures Tim down there because that's the best way he knows how to fight – dirty. It almost plays out like a horror movie, where Tim doesn't know which way to turn and doesn't know where the voice is being thrown from. That's kind of what I was going for with that scene – something more scary than a typical superhero fight.

IGN Comics: Can you leave us off on a few teases for Battle for the Cowl #3?

Daniel: Let's see…next issue we get to see some more of Squire. We get to see a character named Batman Jones. And finally, the battle between Dick and Jason will make the fight between Tim and Jason seem small in comparison.

okay so batman is dead.... for now *wink*. What needs to be decided is who will replace him. *note: I am going over everyone in the photo we saw at the end of final crisis #6*

The most logical choice (and not a personal choice) for DC to go is making:

Richard Grayson- Batman (after all these years of character development, he's deserved it and DC has been shaping him more and more to be the next bruce wayne)

Damian Wayne- Robin (as much as some dislike this character, it's obvious that he'll be the next robin because: he works better with Richard than any other character, this will give him redemption and character development to be more nice and respectful and stray away from what jaseon todd was like.)

Tim Drake- knight wing (let's face it, he's been robin too long to continue, after all the robin changes it's time to move on and DC knows this. they made him darker, they blew off the back of his head thus making him don the red robin costume. in all likely hood prior to battle for the cowel he'll either take up knight wing or the red robin because of circumstances.

Hush- Bruce wayne (now bear with me here, this is a long shot, everything else would remain the same if hush becomes batman but most likely he just becomes bruce because right now he looks like bruce [plastic surgery]. the bat family could just tell him "we'll give you the fortune to live a rich lifestyle like you wanted but bruce wayne can't seem dead, you be bruce, enjoy it and we do our thing". since he has nothing against them only bruce)

those are the absolute best solutions for those characters other character who will be different during this time are:

Jaseon Todd (Jaseon will try to be batman on a revenge route by dressing up like him and going around killing with two guns as shown in the pic.... that's jaseon without a doubt in my mind folks. he's still too young in comparison to Richard as are tim and damian to become batman. so he might just become a copycat villain which brings me to....

Two Face ( he won't become batman, that's just ridiculously funny. no, what two face will do is to compensate for no batman being around is he'll dress up like batman and a very weird looking one at that.)

*as for Harley Quinn, Alefred, and Batwoman (and not shown catwoman), ignore them as even having a chance for the cowl, i don't need to even justiphy what's wrong with that.*

Warner Bros. Pictures made the announcement Friday afternoon, saying that the combined domestic and international gross had totaled $1,001,082,160 to date -- about $533 million domestically and $567 million overseas.

The Dark Knight had been about $4 million short of the 10-figure mark when Warner Bros. re-released it into IMAX screens on Jan. 23, the day after its eight Oscar nominations were announced. Grosses from Ecuador also helped nudge the film over the mark, a spokeswoman said.

Only Titanic ($1.842 billion), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.119 billion) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($1.066 billion) have topped the billion-dollar worldwide mark previously.

TDK also is the second-highest domestic grosser of all time, trailing only Titanic.

In 2008, we had lost one the most promising actor that Hollywood had to offer. Heath Ledger, most famous for portraying a gay cowboy in Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain, but soon everyone will remember him for playing infamous Joker in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.

Now FHMOnline.com, has posted an unpublished interview in 2007, which he was on location in Chicago.

Are you lucid enough to tell all?
(laughs) You caught me at a good moment.

Everyone said that you were fearless taking on this role, is that really true?
I definitely feared it. Anything that fears me, I guess, excites me at the same time and so I don’t know if I was fearless, but I certainly had to put on a brave face and believe that I had something up my sleeve and something that was different.

Did you watch any of the Jack Nicholson stuff?
Oh yeah. (laughs) I mean, not after I got the role, but I’ve seen it many times before, I was a huge fan of it and you having seen Chris’s first film, I knew that there’s a big difference between a Chris Nolan film and a Tim Burton film and so therefore there was enough room for a fresh portrayal and so I’ve kind of steered away from what Jack did (laughs) hopefully.

In what way?
I don’t know. I’m not at liberty to say.

How did you build your character? Did you start with the comic books or the movies or the TV series?
A bit of both. Like I sat around a hotel room in London, for about a month and I just locked myself away and formed a little diary and experimented with voices and I’ll answer your question (laughs), he’s you know I ended up making him within the realm of a psychopath kind of like zero empathy or very little to no conscience towards his acts which is fun because there’s no real limits on their boundaries to what he would say or how he would say something or what he would do. So, yeah that, I don’t know it’s always a very personal process in terms of how you land in your characters shoes, so to speak, It’s a combination of reading all the comic books I could and the script, and then just really closing my eyes and meditating on it. Chris and I very much see eye to eye on how the character should be played, and that was evident from the first kind of meeting we had on the project. We both had identical images in our minds and so I went away, found it, came back.

Do we see the man behind The Joker?
I don’t know. (laughs) I really don’t know what to say, I feel like I’ll be assassinated if I tell you something wrong…

We know there’s a prologue, but we don’t know exactly what is in that
OK, I’m really not sure what I’m allowed to say (laughs)

Again, with that process of getting into The Joker, is the idea that he may have once been a normal person?
Yeah, I think most of the villains in kind of the Chris Nolan style of Batman movies are normal people, once were normal people. I definitely kind of came to my own conclusions to his background and but one thing, and I don’t know whether I’d be putting my foot in my mouth by giving you that, I guess it’s my secret too at this point so I don’t know. This is the first time I’d had to speak about it and no ones really prepped me and (laughs) on what I can say or not.

Has your daughter seen you as The Joker?
No, no. I think she’s seen like an image of it but…

Was she scared?
She just kind of frowned at it you know. (laughs). I don’t think she connected me to it yeah.

So does that really help with the character? You got a costume in there as well and the whole feel, look…
Yeah, yeah, it’s definitely the icing on the cake toward all the research that you do prior to shooting. There’s something about the metaphor to work behind a mask and from within a mask always gives you the license to do whatever you want or the freedom, free of feeling like you’re being judged or viewed and so I’m literally wearing a mask now which empowers me twice as much to kind of feel free and feel unrestrained here and it’s pretty exciting

How do you get into the mindset of evil?
I think we all have it in us, you know. I don’t know, once again, it’s kind of you know, like for awhile there I was thinking that sometimes I’ll connect some exterior thoughts, I’m kind of eating raw meat and what that does to your mouth and to your eyes and simple little visuals like that that can kind of twist your mind a little bit and it feels evil when it’s not necessarily an evil thought, but it may look and come across as evil. I don’t know, I guess just the rest is trusting like your research and trusting all the definitions of these words, a psychopath and you know, and then just running with it. You know? I don’t know, I’m trying not to give it too much thought at this point and…

Nicholson said the first time he saw himself as The Joker he forgot his lines. Was there a moment you looked at your performance and felt a certain way?
I haven’t looked at it yet. I’ve heard it, in the trailer and it kinda creeped me out a little bit but I haven’t seen it yet.

Why? Why haven’t you seen it?
I just, I don’t know where I’d see it. We don’t have playback, I don’t want to see playback, and I just, I haven’t seen, I don’t know if you’d, they’ve put together a trailer of some sort for…

You never see dailies of the film?
No. I did. I did. I used to. But now I just find it’s a waste of time. (laughs) I’d rather go home, go to sleep (laughs)…it’s too late

Is that because you found you were readjusting your performance when you were doing that?
Sometimes, yeah, sometimes. I mean, just out of insecurities I used to do it, and schooling, self tutored.

Yeah?
Yeah, not hard. He’s a total gentleman about it. He kind of tapped me on the shoulder and it’s been physical, but I enjoy that. I get battered and bruised, but I don’t know, I like feeling pain too, it’s kind of acting, in a way.

And you found a way to walk etc?
Definitely, I found an interesting kind of posture of sort, which I felt went with his aggressive nature and a walk and it’s hard to describe I guess, it’s a little hunched.

Is this a role you had to go to the gym much?
No. (laughs) Thank God, yeah.

So that’s good.
Yeah. (laughs)

Can you talk about your scenes with Christian. You’re the nemesis you know, the iconic Batman nemesis there must be some electricity?
Well, firstly, it’s an honor to work with Christian. I mean the cast in general is pretty outstanding, I mean, every single one of these people I’ve wanted to work with, and have inspired me at some point and so it’s ridiculous, the cast and my first scene was with Gary Oldman, which was mind blowing. Then after he leaves the interrogation room, Batman arrives (laughs), you know? And suddenly, I realized what movie I was in (laughs) and it’s quite fun actually because you know I was supposed to, you know, nothing really gets under my skin, including Batman, and it’s quite easy, as an actor, because it’s kind of funny, seeing someone dressed up in a bat suit, it was easy to laugh at it but he’s incredibly professional and incredibly focused and you know, one of the loveliest guys I’ve ever worked with and a brilliant actor and, even down to Batman like how serious he takes it, and how he transforms and his voice shifts and aggressive he gets, it’s really inspiring stuff.

So the concept is that Batman uses fear, and that Joker has no fear of Batman – it’s that kind of relationship?
Yeah. They can’t really live without each other. It’s that kind of relationship. You know? Like they have no real purpose in life without each other. So they don’t really want each other dead.

And how about working with Maggie Gyllenhaal, because obviously you’ve worked with her brother before and did you know her before?
Yeah. Yeah I did. Yeah, that’s been great too. I stuck a knife (laughs) into her and… no, it’s been a lot of fun and you know, she’s also a Brooklynite and so we’ve just been kinda, trading a lot of family stories and yeah, it’s been fun.

Could you describe what sets Chris Nolan apart from other directors?
He drinks a lot more tea than I’ve seen another director drink (laughs). That definitely sets him apart. He’s so young, but seems so old and he’s just incredibly mature and organized and relaxed on set, and he’s definitely in his world. He has a wonderful relationship with his DP, Wally, and those two kind of seem to have the entire world mapped out, and we just kind of follow in their path. I couldn’t imagine what it’s like directing a movie this size, but he manages to kind of keep a clear head and he’s super organized, he actually just, surprisingly enough, like as organized as he is, he really just shoots as he goes too, like he makes a lot of it up, as he goes and he’s very flexible in that way.

Since he’s also the co-writer is he also involved in any fine-tuning of Joker’s lines…
Me? No, not really. No he was all there, he was all on page. They did a really good job.

Everybody says how dark the film is but is there any moment of just kind of twisted fun that The Joker brings to the table?
Yeah, yeah, all the time. There’s nothing consistent about him at all, so he’s not consistently dark or consistently fun, or funny, just going up and down the whole time.

You had fun in terms of playing it?
Yeah, it’s the most fun I’ve had, playing a role.

This is very different than your character in Brokeback Mountain who is so restrained?
Yeah, absolutely, I’m really surprised Chris knew that I or thought or believed that I had something in me like this and I don’t know how he came to ask me to do it. But yeah it is. It’s definitely the most fun I’ve had and the most freedom I’ve had and the work schedule’s great (laughs), I work two days and have three weeks off (laughs) It’s like that for six months, so went surfing a lot.

But you do some work?!
Yeah, yeah, I do. It’s just a long schedule, and there’s a lot of action sequences, so action sequences take three weeks to a month sometimes to shoot.

Any injuries or hairy moments?
No but I let Christian, he went and stood up on the Sears Tower himself, they took him right up to the very top and he took his feet right to the edge. And they put him on a thin wire and he just leaned off the tower like this (demonstrating) which I thought was a pretty cool story. There’s been a lot of car chases and there was an Imax camera that got busted up, got jammed between a truck and a car and they just you know, replaced it (laughs), kept on shooting, as you do.

Is this the most expensive movie you’ve ever made?
Yeah, definitely.

Does that have an influence on your performance? It’s different from Brokeback Mountain?
Yeah, it’s completely different. It doesn’t really change that space of time between action and cut that’s always the same no matter what’s around you, it’s the same place you live in. But yeah it’s a different ballgame, it’s quite amazing, it’s quite jaw dropping, yeah. It’s fun. It’s been a lot of fun watching it.

Besides being a masked guy, what does he have? a car? Something special?
The Jokermobile? (laughs) Rollerblades, yeah (laughs), that would be funny. No he doesn’t have a set of wheels - he just steals whatever’s around.

He has that image of someone who has that flower that squirts acid, that sort of thing?
No, not a lot of gimmicks.

Just you and a knife?
He’s just bloody, yeah.

It’s a gory one?
I mean it’s, you know, it’s a PG-13 isn’t it? I think, so not really, you know, I think it suggests more gore, I remember going into this thinking it was PG-13 but I wanted to present an X rated performance, if I could. So it’s kind of what I’ve been going for and the power of suggestion. It is pretty dark, but there’s not a lot of gore.

Have you run into Jack Nicholson since you go the part?
I wish. (laughs) I’ve never run into him but I’d like to. Not literally.

A few member of DKF are off on holidays in Asia! We were able to catch "The Dark Knight" in Taipei.

We all walked out of the movie speechless. This is by the far the greatest comic book hero movie to date. The movie ended an hour ago and we are all unable to express in words how amazing the storyline, character, action.

Heath Ledger as the Joker was amazing. We have taken some of our (not high quality) photos and turned them into Wallpapers - Joker Wallpaper! "Why So Serious?"

We will provide our review tomorrow after we have all had some time to SOAK in this amazing movie!!!!

Ah, but not to fear, we get the barest glimpse here and from almost all the way behind the character. What I really like about this clip is that it almost looks like it’s lifted from The Godfather instead of from a superhero summer blockbuster movie.

The producers of the new Batman movie franchise are trying to persuade Clint Eastwood to play the Mayor of Gotham City in their next film, according to Internet reports.

SuperheroHype.com reports the one-time Mayor of California coastal town Carmel-by-the-Sea is in talks to play a fictional city leader in the follow-up to The Dark Knight, which hits cinemas next month.

The website states, "They (producers) want Clint to play a version of himself as the Mayor of Gotham City."

Fandango is reporting that dozens of showtimes for The Dark Knight are already sold out for the midnight screenings on Thursday night/Friday morning, July 17th. That’s right, even with a full three weeks before the film hits, screenings have begun to sell out. A few theaters have begun to add 3:00am showtimes on Friday morning to help meet the consumer demand.

Update: As of June 27, “Dark Knight” has sold eight times as many tickets on MovieTickets.com as “Spider-Man 3″ at the same point in the sales cycle — 21 days from the film’s official release. “Spider-Man 3″ is the No. 10 film on MovieTickets.com’s Top-10 Performing Films of All-Time.

Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight has a running time of more than two and a half hours.

According to the British Board Of Film Classification (BBFC), the Batman Begins sequel is 152 minutes long.

The BBFC has granted the movie a 12A certificate.

The film is the longest in the superhero franchise, with its predecessor carrying a running time of 140 minutes.

Recent lengthy summer blockbusters include Spider-Man 3 (139 minutes), Transformers (144 minutes) and Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End (168 minutes)

The Dark Knight is released in the UK on July 25.

Batman Begins looks like being the best Batman film so far which, considering the quality of the previous films, shouldn't be hard.

The film documents the history of Batman, and his reasons for becoming the creature otherwise known as the Dark Knight.

With a monster new Batmobile, which performs real stunts, this looks to be one high-octane film.

This screensaver is fairly simple but striking. It features the Bat logo against a hazy backdrop of smog, with the occasional bat flying by.
